Your 2012 All Star Payrolls

All Star teams would be expensive, you know, if the leagues actually had to pay them. Thanks to my intern, who I pay in gas station peanut packs, and his spreadsheet skills, I have the financial details for each squad set to participate in Tuesday's exhibition (but not really) game.

There were surprisingly few substitutions this year. Even Derek Jeter is going to play instead of globetrotting with beautiful actresses of whatever he does. So, it is more of an All Star Game instead of having everybody in baseball getting an invite. You can check out last year's payroll here and 2010's here...

If the AL could have just squeezed a few more Yankees and Rangers into the starting lineup, that could be a billion dollar nine. Both leagues get a break however. The AL MVP, Mike Trout, isn't even making half a million. I don't know how a 20-year-old even lives in California without a million dollars. I'm basing that on The O.C. episodes I've seen. Harper, of course, got a nice signing bonus but he's going to sign a freakish contract one day with Scott Boras repping him.

The Pirates' $51,932,333 payroll is roughly $10 million less than the NL's starting hitters. Or one Curtis Granderson is baseball speak.

What do I learn from this every year? Baseball players need to send money to my paypal account. I am woefully underpaid with the threes of dollars I make off of this site every month.

Your 2011 All Star Game Payrolls

Ever wonder how much an All Star team would cost? Well, I do too after roughly half (or 10%, if you want to split hairs) of Major League players were, at some point, added to the 2011 All Star rosters. This year's biggest snub, Andrew McCutchen, was seemingly passed over half a dozen times before being added to the NL squad and now he's starting for them. I was at work and the voicemail is a little garbled but I think I had a chance to replace Jon Lester on the AL team if I could have correctly named the Academy Award winner for best movie in 1975.

Despite players backing out because of injuries, faux-juries, travel plans and overall disinterest, MLB will still play the All Star Game on Tuesday. It's a good thing it counts for something. Anyway, here are the payrolls...

UPDATE:Matt Holliday will start in place of Ryan Braun instead of Andrew McCutchen. Unfortunately, I no longer have the desire to correct this post since it appears to be to subject to change until Wednesday morning.

Notes
Here's the link to last year's ASG payrolls. No, I haven't gotten any better at HTML since then.

What a difference a year makes. Actually, what a difference the Yankees make. Last year the AL crushed the NL in All Star salary due to the Yanks. It's much more even this year after Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera won't be participating after making the team. That's $86,285,714 of payroll between them. You could buy the NL reserves for that.

Andrew McCutchen is criminally underappreciated and underpaid. With four years of arbitration ahead of him with the Pirates, it will be interesting to see which one corrects itself first.

Special thanks to Off Base intern @Filosomesa who tracked down all of the contract info for me. Cots is a great site and all but the poor guy had to look up almost every player in baseball.

And Here Are Your 2010 All Star Game Payrolls

Off Base intern @Filosomesa recently wondered what the payrolls of the All Star teams would look like. I thought that was a great idea so I sent him over to Cot's Baseball Contracts to do all of the work for me. I'm very busy with all of my afternoon naps and whatnot. Don't worry though, we pay him handsomely in potato chips.

A few quick notes before we get to some numbers that are going to make me feel bad about myself. These are the salaries for the 2010 season, we rounded to the nearest $1,000 and there are no bonuses included. If any players would like to donate their All Star bonuses to our site, we'd appreciate it and we take personal checks and Paypal. Please hurry, I'm hungry. Okay, on to some gaudy numbers...

Notes: It shouldn't comes as a surprise the the AL out monies the NL for the All Star rosters. The Yankees players ($81,047,000) make more than the NL's starting lineup. Somebody needs to check the basement in old Yankee Stadium, I'm certain they're printing money there. That can't be legal.

Joey Votto is going to clean up in arbitration this offseason. Arbitration season is my fourth favorite part of the baseball year. 1) Hot Stove 2) Fantasy Baseball Draft 3) Opening Day 4) Arbitration Season 5) Angels getting knocked out of the playoffs

Derek Jeter makes too much money.

I'm not very good with HTML.

Tampa Bay and Florida have to be ecstatic with the contracts of Evan Longoria and Hanley Ramirez.

Alright, I'm tired of this post.
