After playing in no less than 145 games in any season with the Pirates and Red Sox (as well as being the first Pirate since Andy Van Slyke to be voted in as an all star starter, one of Eddie Vedders few contributions), Bay played in a high of 123 games for the Mets in 2011. His OPS his final season in Boston was a robust. 921, his OPS his final season in New York was a paltry .536
When asked about the buyout and his time in New York, Bay said:
“I have no regrets in signing with the Mets, other than that I wasn’t able to play to the level that the team, the fans and I all expected and that we weren’t able to win more games,” Bay said. “I move on with nothing but an appreciation for the organization and its fans and best wishes to all my teammates there.”No I'll will indeed, and why should he, he's getting paid $16MM to go away.
