Melky Cabrera Drawing Interest. Really.

Looks like Melky Cabrera still might get a fat paycheck even though he got popped for elevated testosterone levels suggesting PED use. It is being reported that at least five teams have expressed interest in the outfielder. Why? I'm not sure. He still has an incredible arm, but if these teams are going after the Melkman for his bat, chances are they are going to be sorely disappointed.

Melky's career slash line is .284/.338/.414, and that's with his .346/.390/.516 line from 2012. If you take out his inflated production from this past season (as it is almost certainly an outlier thanks to the drugs) his line comes down to .275/.327/.398. Zoinks. That's a .722 OPS. For comparison, Juan Uribe's career OPS is .715. And I highly doubt Uribe is high on any teams wishlist.

Here's a clue for some of you teams looking at Melky as an option. The Giants had the ability to activate him for the NLCS and World Series. He was, outside of Buster Posey, the teams best hitter before the suspension. They left him off the roster. The Giants. A team who is not known for it's hitting, left off a player that qualified to win the batting title. Let that sink in for a moment. And let's not forget the whole fake website that he had some create to cover up his tracks of online purchases.

So, what we have here is a player who is a liar and a cheater who subsequently has performed at the plate at a Juan Uribe-esque clip. Yet, teams remain interested in him for a corner outfield spot which is routinely reserved for meh level fielders who carry big sticks. Oh, baseball, you can be so funny sometimes.
